Christmas 2011

Gingerbread Wonderland

Merry Christmas! It's that jolly time of the year again. So this cute illustration was something I came up with when I suddenly noticed that a lot of my friends were making gingerbread houses, gingerbread man, and all that sugary goodness for the holidays. I have never been a baker and so I've so never made any sweets, but I've always wished to make some. It seemed really enjoyable decorating the baked goods with whipped cream and candies for some reason, even though I'm not too fond of eating sweets. This was my way of "baking" I suppose.
My Friend

This painting probably does not seem very Christmas-like at all, but that's because it's a present I did for my best friend. For about 3 years now, my friend have always requested me to do a drawing of her favorite character named "Lucid." She always wished that I made him more "realistic" and that's what I did this year. I also included her favorite subjects into this illustration such as book, window, tree, and Shiba inu. Inside the book I wrote a little message for her that reads as "watashi no tomodachi" which means "my friend" in Japanese. I think this title is quite suitable for this image, after all a dog is a man's best friend and I'm dedicating this to my best friend *cues laughter*. I hope this illustration makes her happy.

Stairway of Versaille's Court

This is an acrylic painting done in 3 class sessions (about 8 hours in total). The models wore beautiful European costumes, making this an exciting piece for me to do. I really enjoy working on lengthy painting like this, because I feel I learn a lot more when I'm given more time to complete an artwork.

Ending Battle

oil on canvas

This is one of the biggest painting I've ever done, it measures to be 24''x30''. It was an assignment for a mural illustration depicting a time in history, which I chose to be roman war. I chose to show how the warriors may have felt after the battle was over in which they were exhausted but relieved.

The picture below is my basement where I spent hours working on the painting (my studio?). It was cold, but a nice place to do such a big painting; a good place to make a mess. The chair which the canvas sat on was my makeshift easel *laughs*.

Tired Campers

watercolor on wet media paper
This was an illustration done in my figure drawing when my professor returned to school after a few weeks of absence due to a leg injury. I'm glad she's all better now, and I feel pleased with this painting I produced in 2 hours.

Wood Elf

This illustration was done because of my love for elves. I did this painting over the summer, but I wasn't happy with how my color palette was. My colors were very cool and didn't capture the atmosphere that I wanted this piece to have. Last night I decided to go back to rework this piece and now I'm pretty satisfied with the colors.

Museum Drawings

Mammut

Ring Tailed Lemur

Bird of Gobi Desert

So the first drawing was from the Metropolitan Musuem of Art at the Petri Gallery, but I forgot to record the name of the piece. The last three drawings were from the American Museum of Natural History which I really enjoyed touring around. There was a very interesting variety of things to see at the Museum of Natural History, such as dinosaur, fishes, Native Americans, ostriches, ice age, evolution of man, outer space, etc.

Men

Spring Man, Photoshop

Flower Boy, Photoshop
Although both paintings are done on Photoshop, I chose to do them in different styles by using different brushstrokes. The one top is bit more painterly while the one on the bottom is more smoothed out.

African Lady

I've been working on this image on an off and I finally decided stay with this. I had a lot fun painting the face. The face is a very unique part of our body and I can spent hours just studying and painting it. I might go back re-work this piece, but for now this is what it is.

R.I.P Aileen

Digital Painting
This post is dedicated to a good friend of mine who passed away on June 4, 2011. She was only 16 years old, but she was very beautiful, intelligent, nice, talented, and overall amazing. I have known her since I was in middle school and she was in elementary school. Quite honesty I still can't believe she is gone. Every time I think about going to yum cha I visualize her sitting in the same table as me, but now I get a cold chill thinking I will never see her again. Although we only met through our parents, we were able to create a bond known as friendship. I was so excited to become better friends with her, since I would be moving closer to her in a few months. Now our distance is even further apart. It hurts me every time I think of how much her family is grieving right now. I've known her for so long and our families get a long so well, it almost feel as though we are a family. She is a great daughter, sister, cousin, and anyone would be so lucky to call her their friend. I will never forget her. Rest in peace Aileen <3.

2nd Semester Final Projects/Assignments

Time Keeper, Acrylics on gessoed board
Crocofish, Gouache on illustration board
Fun Circus, Gouache on illustration board
Tyra Piggy Banks, Oils on illustration board
Woman in Red Scarf, Oils on Illustration Board

The last one is not a project, but a studio painting. I am really pleased with the way it was coming out (even though it's not finished yet). The image in the previous post is also a final project.
Sorry that the pictures are not very clear, I really need to buy a new camera.
